NASENI Objectives

NASENI has articulated the draft policy on Development of Basic Technologies for Empowering SMEs. The objectives of this policy are to:

• Promote interactive actions and participatory programmes that will generate the emergence and industrialization of a pool of relevant technologies and engineering infrastructure for SMEs in core sub-sector.
• Promote standardization and quality assurance in design parameters, tooling and materials selection for SME machinery and equipment
• Promote the adoption and use of locally developed and adapted technologies and processes by SMEs;
• Promote integrated R & D activities in support of the critical technological needs of the SMEs; and
• Promote the adoption and usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by SMEs.

Some of the projects proposed under this programme include solid mineral processing, agricultural products processing (fruit juice, oil palm, and cassava), leather, wood and wood product, chemical, metal, casting etc. NASENI in addition is working towards collaboration with NOTAP and SMEDAN in developing and transferring appropriate process technologies to entrepreneurs in the SME sector for production of goods and services.
